Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Spoon or whisk for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Combine the Ingredients:

  • In a medium-sized saucepan, add the ketchup, molasses, apple cider vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, soy sauce, black pepper, and salt.

Stir the Sauce:

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Use a whisk or spoon to stir the mixture together until it’s smooth and all the ingredients are fully combined.

Simmer the Sauce:

  • Bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent burning and ensure even heating. Let it simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.

Taste and Adjust:

  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more honey for sweetness or vinegar for tanginess.

Cool and Store:

  • Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, remove it from the heat. Let it cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

If you prefer a thicker Wendy BBQ Sauce Recipe, simply let it simmer a little longer until it reaches your desired thickness. If it becomes too thick, add a little water to thin it out.
Feel free to adjust the sweetness by adding more brown sugar or molasses, depending on your preference. I like mine on the sweeter side, especially when pairing with burgers!
If you love heat, you can double the cayenne pepper or add a chopped jalapeño pepper during the cooking process to infuse extra spice into the sauce.
