Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Spoon or whisk for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Heat-resistant spatula or spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard either yellow or Dijon
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika smoky flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to heat preference
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

Combine the Ingredients:

  • In a medium saucepan, add the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard.

Add the Spices:

  • Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.

Cook the Sauce:

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent the sauce from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Taste and Adjust:

  • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings, adding more honey for sweetness or cayenne for heat, if desired.

Serve:

  • Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly before serving. It pairs perfectly with grilled meats, ribs, burgers, or as a dipping sauce for fries.

Notes

❖ Heat Level: The cayenne pepper in this recipe provides a mild heat. If you prefer a spicier sauce, feel free to add more cayenne or even a dash of hot sauce to kick it up a notch.
❖ Customization: This sauce is incredibly versatile! If you like a more tangy BBQ sauce, increase the apple cider vinegar. Want more sweetness? A little extra honey or brown sugar can do the trick.
❖ Storage: This sauce keeps well in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Store it in an airtight jar or bottle for easy access at your next BBQ.
❖ Serving Ideas: Use this sauce as a marinade or glaze for ribs, chicken wings, pulled pork, or even vegetables. It’s also fantastic as a dipping sauce for fries or onion rings.
