Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or wooden spoon
  • Storage jar or bottle

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce optional, for heat
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Combine Ingredients

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and Sriracha sauce (if using).

Simmer the Sauce

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves completely and the ingredients are well combined.

Thicken the Sauce

  • Allow the sauce to simmer for about 20 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

Season to Taste

  • Taste the sauce and add salt as needed. If you prefer a spicier kick, increase the amount of Sriracha or add a dash of cayenne pepper.

Cool and Store

  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature. Transfer it to a storage jar or bottle and refrigerate. The sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

❖ Adjusting Sweetness: Feel free to modify the amount of brown sugar to suit your taste preferences. For a less sweet sauce, reduce the sugar by half.
❖ Spice Level: The Sriracha sauce adds a mild heat. If you prefer a spicier sauce, consider adding finely chopped fresh chili peppers or a dash of hot sauce.
❖ Vegan Option: Ensure that the soy sauce and other ingredients are certified vegan if you follow a plant-based diet.
