For the Shrimp:
- 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the BBQ Sauce:
- 4 tbsp butter 1/2 stick
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup white wine
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 bay leaves crushed
- 1 tsp hot sauce Tabasco for a Louisiana touch
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper adjust to taste
- 1/2 tsp thyme fresh or dried
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for added heat
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley finely chopped (for garnish)
Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot, add the shrimp and sauté for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they turn pink and opaque. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, white wine, salt, red pepper flakes, oregano, bay leaves, hot sauce, paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little more white wine or water to achieve your desired consistency.
Return the shrimp to the skillet with the sauce and toss them to coat evenly. Let the shrimp simmer in the sauce for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Remove the bay leaves before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately with your favorite side, like rice or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
This dish has a slight kick of heat from the cayenne pepper and hot sauce. However, feel free to adjust the spice level based on your preference.
If you prefer a milder version, you can reduce the amount of cayenne or hot sauce. Alternatively, if you like things extra spicy, go ahead and add more!
