- 4 cups apple cider or unfiltered apple juice
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 orange sliced
- 5 –6 whole cloves
- 1 –2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey adjust to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg or a few slices of fresh ginger
Start by gathering all your ingredients. Pour the apple cider into a medium-sized saucepan. Slice the orange into thin rounds. If you’re using fresh ginger, slice it thinly as well.
Next, add the flavorings. Drop in the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and nutmeg—or the ginger slices if you prefer. Add the orange slices on top. Stir in your sweetener, whether it’s maple syrup or honey.
Set the pan over medium heat and warm the cider slowly. Bring it up to a gentle simmer, being careful not to let it boil so the flavors stay balanced.
Once it reaches a simmer, turn the heat down to low and let it cook gently for 10 to 15 minutes. Stir every so often to help the spices and fruit infuse the cider fully.
When it’s ready, remove the pan from the heat. If you like a clear drink, strain out the solids. Pour the cider into mugs and add a final touch with a cinnamon stick or an orange slice for garnish. Serve while it’s warm and enjoy.
Notes: Adjust the sweetness to your taste with more or less maple syrup/honey. For extra warmth, a splash of rum or brandy can be added for an adult version. This cider can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
