A hot apple cider drink is a warm, comforting beverage perfect for cooler days. Made with fresh apple juice or cider, cinnamon, and cloves, this recipe offers a cozy, flavorful drink with added health benefits. It’s ideal for relaxing, boosting your immune system, or simply enjoying a seasonal treat.
8cups2 quarts apple cider (unfiltered, if possible)
2–3 cinnamon sticks
4whole cloves
2whole allspice berriesor ½ tsp ground allspice
1orangesliced into rounds
½lemonsliced, optional
2–4 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrupto taste
Optional: ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
Optional: ½ cup dark rum or bourbonfor a spiked version
Instructions
In a large saucepan or pot, pour in the apple cider. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, orange slices, lemon slices (if using), and brown sugar or maple syrup.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Do not let it boil — just a light simmer. Let it simmer for about 15–20 minutes, uncovered. Stir occasionally to help the flavors blend.
Taste the cider and add more sweetener if needed. You can also add a pinch of ground nutmeg for extra spice. Use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the spices and fruit slices if you prefer a smooth drink.
Ladle into mugs and serve warm. For an adult version, stir in 1–2 tablespoons of rum or bourbon per serving.
Notes
Be sure to choose high-quality, fresh apple cider for the best flavor. It makes a significant difference compared to bottled apple juice. Also, if you want a smoother texture, feel free to add a splash of milk or cream for a richer drink.
