Equipment

  • Medium-sized saucepan
  • Stirring spoon
  • Knife (for slicing orange and lemon)
  • Ladle (optional for serving)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3-4 whole cloves
  • ¼ cup real maple syrup
  • 6 whole allspice berries
  • 1 orange sliced into wedges
  • 1 lemon peel cut into strips

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, pour in the 4 cups of apple cider. Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice berries, and maple syrup to the cider. Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
  • Add the sliced orange wedges and lemon peel strips to the saucepan. Stir again to incorporate the fruit.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the cider to a gentle simmer. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together and the spices to infuse into the cider.
  • After simmering, remove from heat and strain out the spices and fruit (optional if you prefer a spiced drink). Pour the hot apple cider into mugs and serve immediately.

Notes

Be sure to choose high-quality, fresh apple cider for the best flavor. It makes a significant difference compared to bottled apple juice. Also, if you want a smoother texture, feel free to add a splash of milk or cream for a richer drink.
