Equipment

  • Bread machine,
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Large bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water 110°F to 115°F
  • 1 1/4 tablespoons honey
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 3 3/4 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Warm the milk and water to about 110°F to 115°F (you can use a thermometer to be sure). This is important for activating the yeast.
  • Melt the butter and set it aside to cool slightly.

Add Ingredients to the Bread Machine:

  • In the bread machine pan, add the warm milk, warm water, honey, melted butter, and olive oil.
  • Sprinkle the salt on top of the wet ingredients.
  • Add the bread flour and whole wheat flour, ensuring they cover the wet ingredients evenly.
  • Finally, make a small well in the center of the flour (be careful not to go all the way through to the wet ingredients) and add the yeast into the well.

Select the Program:

  • Set your bread machine to the whole wheat or basic bread cycle, depending on your machine’s options.
  • If you have the option to choose the size, select the 1.5-pound loaf size.

Start the Machine:

  • Press the start button and let the bread machine do the work! It will mix, knead, rise, and bake the bread automatically.

Cool the Bread:

  • Once the bread machine finishes the baking cycle, carefully remove the bread from the pan.
  • Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

I highly recommend using fresh yeast to ensure the best rise and texture. If your yeast is expired, it may not activate properly, leading to dense or undercooked bread.
Always store your yeast in a cool, dry place to maintain its potency.
