Equipment

  • Dutch oven or a large oven-safe pot with lid
  • Measuring Cups
  • Knife (for slicing butter)
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Oven mitts

Ingredients

  • 2 cans 21 oz each cherry pie filling
  • 1 can 20 oz crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 box 15.25 oz yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, sliced

Instructions

Preheat and prepare:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease the inside of your Dutch oven with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.

Layer the fruit:

  • Dump both cans of cherry pie filling evenly into the bottom of the Dutch oven. Then spread the drained crushed pineapple over the cherry layer.

Add cake mix and butter:

  • Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the fruit layers without stirring. Then distribute the sliced butter evenly on top of the cake mix.

Bake:

  • Cover the Dutch oven with its lid and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, remove the lid and bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly. Let it cool slightly before serving.
