Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking sheet or loaf pan
  • Oven
  • Spatula and wooden spoon

Ingredients

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 packets 4 ½ tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups warm milk about 110°F
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 12 strips bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 2 eggs for egg wash

Instructions

Prep Dough:

  • In a large bowl, combine 5 cups of flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Add chopped parsley. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, and vegetable oil. Slowly add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.

Knead:

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

First Rise:

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Add Mix-ins:

  • Gently punch down the dough, then fold in shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon.

Shape & Second Rise:

  • Form the dough into a loaf shape and place it into a greased bread pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Prepare for Baking:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Beat the eggs and brush over the top of the loaf for a golden finish.

Bake:

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Cool & Serve:

  • Let the bread cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!

Notes

Bread Storage: Store any leftover bread in an airtight container or wrap it in plastic wrap to keep it fresh. It will stay good for about 2–3 days at room temperature. For longer storage, you can freeze slices and toast them directly from frozen.
Dough Resting: If you’re in a hurry, you can speed up the rising process by using a slightly warmer environment, but be careful not to let it get too hot, as that can kill the yeast.
