Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Lowball glass or rocks glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz apple-infused whiskey or substitute with regular whiskey + ½ oz apple cider
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup or maple syrup for a cozy autumn twist
  • 2 –3 thin apple slices for muddling
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon or 1 small cinnamon stick
  • Ice cubes
  • Apple slice for garnish
  • Fresh rosemary sprig for garnish

Instructions

  • In your cocktail shaker, toss in the thin apple slices. Gently muddle them just enough to release the juices and aroma – you want flavor, not mush.
  • Add the apple-infused whiskey (or regular whiskey + apple cider), lemon juice, simple syrup (or maple syrup), bitters, and a pinch of cinnamon to the shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice, seal it tight, and give it a good, firm shake for about 10–15 seconds. You’re chilling the drink and mixing all those fall-forward flavors.
  • Strain the cocktail into a lowball glass filled with fresh ice. If you like it a little extra cozy, you can drop in a cinnamon stick or lightly dust the top with ground cinnamon.
  • Garnish with a thin apple slice and a rosemary sprig. The rosemary gives a nice herbal note as you sip – perfect for cool evenings or holiday get-togethers.

Notes

This drink really shines in the fall, but it’s smooth and refreshing enough to sip year-round. For a smoky touch, try adding a drop of smoked maple syrup or use a smoked whiskey. Not a fan of sweet? Dial back the syrup a touch or use lemon-forward bitters.
