- 1.5 oz Applejack or American apple brandy
- 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz Simple syrup equal parts sugar and water
- 1 oz Unfiltered apple cider or fresh apple juice
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Ice for shaking
- Cinnamon stick or apple slice
Start by placing your serving glass in the freezer or filling it with ice water to chill while you mix the drink.
In a cocktail shaker, combine 1.5 oz of applejack, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 1 oz unfiltered apple cider, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Add a good handful of ice to the shaker.
Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15 seconds until the shaker is frosted and the drink is well chilled.
Discard the ice or water from the serving glass. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a fresh apple slice, and serve immediately.
❖ Adjust the sweetness: I’ve found that the amount of maple syrup can vary depending on how sweet you like your drinks. Feel free to add more or less depending on your personal preference.
❖ Applejack brandy: Applejack is a type of brandy made with apples. If you can’t find it, any good apple-flavored whiskey or brandy should work.
❖ Customize your garnish: While I prefer apple slices and a cinnamon stick, you could also garnish with a twist of orange peel for an added citrus note or a few cloves for extra warmth.
